The world cup

So its finally here. I do love a good world cup!! I am a football widow- Arsenal for life baby!! (theres only ONE team in London and they wear RED) In fact I am a sports widow- so I know far more about football (soccer to my US friends!) and Boxing than I should do. I have even been to Vegas to see Mayweather (totally worth it!!)
I love the build up and the sudden patriotism in the UK. The St Georges flags are out in full force, on cars, bunting on houses, supermarkets selling everything from St George bottles of beer to full on St George suits! Its also the only time when the English feel its appropriate to even mention other cultures! there have been documentaries on Africa (good ones that talk about the proud heritage and productive nature of the African people) and there have been spotlights on key players.
I have lots of good memories of this tournament. I grew up in a single parent household and mum was not the east bit interested in football, but when I went to my grans house, my bdad and uncles didnt watch anythjing else. I have particualrly fond memories of the 1998 World Cup as I was convinves along with all my family and friends that Jamaica were going to win! We all watched every single match together willing them on... but it was not to be lol.
Anyhow, I strongly recommend you follow. I think Argentina have got a great chance of winning this year- but not enough to bet my house on it. That whats so great about this competition. ANYONE can win. I hope to see SAouth Africa do well as the host nation, but more than anything I would love for an African Nation to win on their home continent.
The groups are as follows:
| Group A | Group B | Group C | Group D | Group E | Group F | Group G | Group H | |||||||||||||||
| FRA | ARG | ALG | AUS | CMR | ITA | BRA | CHI | |||||||||||||||
| MEX | GRE | ENG | GER | DEN | NZL | CIV | HON | |||||||||||||||
| RSA | KOR | SVN | GHA | JPN | PAR | PRK | ESP | |||||||||||||||
| URU | NGA | USA | SRB | NED | SVK | POR | SUI | |||||||||||||||
Basically all teams in the group play each other once, the two teams with the most points go through to th next stage (the others go home) 3 points for a win 1 point for a draw no points for a loss. In the next round the winner of group A plays the runner up of group B and so on, then we have the quarters, Semis then on on 11th July the final. The best of the 32 teams will get the coveted trophy.

I love it.
Tune in,South Africa looks beautiful, I have only ever touched down in Africa when I went to Gambia (after reading Roots!) I hope to see SA someday.
Enjoy it.
Jah Bless
Naturally
