Its been a long time........

Hey peeps, a few pics and a few updates to come. No excuses- sheer laziness!!

I was on my way to my cousins bbq. I got this hairstyle of someone on youtube- I will credit them when I found the vid again. I have found youtube increasingly helpful in my quest to become more creative.

You will be flooded with posts in the next few days!! enjoy

The Style......

So my aunty J is gwaaaaanin. Here is my hair. It was washed and dc'd when she got here and in several do do plaits. I wanted to put twists in as I am lazy- but the dreaded post partum shredding had started- I cannot bare to see all my hair fall out in the shower!! so I figure leaveing it alone for a few months can only do my hair good.

My plan is to sprizt it daily with the wonderful stuff from hairwegrownatural and play the rest by ear.....

Try not to watch the crackhead look!!!

My aunty is amazing- thought of the style- did it, 4 hrs (with all four children)  she is WONDERFUL!! how could I ever repay her?

So this is my hair for the next few weeks. Infact I am leaving it in till my cousins wedding on July 29th. I may take it out just before that to give it a good dc- in the meantime I will be back at my aunties house in three weeks- just before I go back to work (whooole other post about my distress!) just to re-do the cornrows.

In the meantime, I will post inspriation pics, and do those product reviews I have been promising!!

Hair update and plans.......

Nothing too exciting happening with my hair. The weather has really not been fantastic this past few weeks so it has been in a puff ~(as usual) I was toying with the idea of twisting it- but I am too lazy! I have decided to put it in kinky twists (thanx anty) this week. I will keep them in for around 6 weeks- and pull it out hopefully to reveal a HUGE afro for my cousin's wedding at the end of July.

Anyway I have fallen in LOVE. Over the past few weeks I have been using two new things in my hair- and I dont think I am ever gonna change again!!!

Avocado and mango Hair cream from Evelyn products. I first heard about this on The Natural Lounge, I think it is one of Angel's staples- I now understand why!

I dont use the shampoo, just the white condish. Fantastic!!! cheap (currently on sale for £2.50 in Superdrug for 900ml!!!!!) BARGAIN

I will do a full review of each product tomorrow- but believe me people, this is the best my hair has EVER looked.

My 12 megapixel camera cannot quite capture the amazing shine- but please believe me, it is magnificient.

I also plan to update my current product list as requested my someone on myhairsisters- I am on it!!

Twist update

Ok so they only lasted a week. I did wash them- first time I have ever done that- not really feeling the results. On the good side Tresseme naturals are having a BOGOF sale at Superdrug- Bought two bottles of condish as I have heard good things. I will keep you posted. Twists are coming out tonight - plan to rock a HUGE puff for my Sons 5th birthday party tmrw.

It was a sunny day here in London- check the £3 shades from Primarche!

I am frugal people!!

My Hair and mini product review!!!

Every now and again I remember that this is a hair blog! so nothing has really been happening with my hair at the moment. I am on the look out for a new go-to style as I am bored of the puff- although it is becoming ever more impressive even if I do say so myself. I have been scouring the web- but some ladies are spending HOURS grooming their fro's. I simply dont have the time (or inclination) so this weekend I had a family bbq to attend (Happy Eartday 'Bib') so I decided to twist it.

So as I am lazy, my hair had been washed a few days before I just wet my hair with HAIRWEGROWNATURAL's Sprtzy moist (wicked stuff) and sealed with Hairwegrownatural Healthy Hair Hairdress. Apologies for the quality of the pictures, they were taken on the Blackberry-I am loving that phone.

These are the mini sizes, (budgetry restraints mean that I have to be a miser!) but this is an excellent idea. I know Curl Harmony also do mini sizes. Everyone should do it. I cannot tell you the amount of products that I have only used once as I dont like them... they are just sitting in my cupboard gathering dust.

Anyway this stuff was really good. I will certainly be repurchasing the Spritzy Moist. My only complaint with the hairdress was the smell. It is minty- I hate minty stuff, but it was a lovely consistency and moisterised beautifully. My hair was shiney and bouncy and really didnt shrink as much as it usually does.

5/5 for the spritzy moist

4/5 for the Hairdress-smell is a personal preference. If they changed the fragrance I am all over this!

So what I did was pull a small section of my two day old hair (it had been in a puff) spray with the spritzy moist until damp then twist using the hairdress. Simples!

I have finished the Hairdress- I may have overused- but Ilove the heavy feel of my twists, and the bottle is half empty. this tuff is clearly made from good ingredients and my hair is LOOOVVING it.

I intend to keep the twists in for a few week. I will spray as needed with the spritzy moist. it is a clear liquid and smealls lightly minty- but the smell does not linger. It does not leave a film on your (my) hair like some other herbal sprays do. I am Loving this stuff it is by far the best spray/spritz that I have used since being natural- including my own concoction!!

I will be trying the other stuff they have on offer- they have a Heat Protection Hairdress,Maximum Growth Hairdress and a Spritzy Shine.I paid £3.50 each for these miniatures which were delivered the next day..impressive. In line with my UK month, they are a British based company. If you dont know, now you know..... check them out.

So thats me for the next few weeks. I have some othe product revies to catch up on I will try to get them to you asap. The next installment of British Bloggers is coming up on Friday.... keep watching!

Fridays hair and Mini product review

Hey ladies,

Soooooo  for wash day I used the orange Smooth and Soft (HESS) the conditioner and the tub. To coin a very British phrase it was PANTS! The condish in the bottle is much like the other HE condishes- smells loveeerly and has plenty of slip etc. I am not too convinced that they have not just squeezed the bottle into the tub!! I could not tell any difference in smell, thickness or result.

ZERO definition!!

So for a product that is meant to make my hair less frizzy (it is for dry damaged and frizzy hair) I dont think my hair had ever been so  frizzy!! Ohhhhh the irony......

Todays pic's

No rebraid last night, just popped on a satin bonnet. in the morning a bit of ecostyler and HEHH at the front to 'style it out'  The top actually looks and feels quite dry- wash day today....

So thas it for today.... It is the second day of sunshine here in London, I am aware i need to be more inventive with my hair. It is certainly long enough to experiment now. Thats my next mission. Any suggestions?

Todays hair!

I am on a roll this week- trying to post a few hair pics each day as I have not done any in a while. Here are a few of todays hair. I rebraided last night using Cantu leave in  (I 'wet' my hair by just wetting my hands and running it through my fro a few times) and sealing with Vatika oil. I made a conscious effort not to use too much product as I needed it to dry because I was leaving out early in the morning.

Apologies for the dark pics- I completly forgot to take pics when I came back this afternoon!!!

It was a beautiful day today in London- hottest day of the year 21degrees....long may it continue ( we will probably get 10 degrees tomorrow lol!!)

Do-Do braids in the morning, as you can see they are BIG with no structure! (parting etc) it is literally grab a bit of hair and braid.

I was feeling my hair today. it is shiney and it clearly agrees with the sunshine( like the rest of me!)

How was your hair today?

Today's Hair

Ok, so I am into the second day of my braidout. You may remember yesterday that I mentioned that the products that I used didnt have much hold, I have to tell you- London has much wind.... the two are not a great mix!! I was not intentionally going for the crack-whore look, but thats what happenend in the end lol!

So far, not so bad right?.... look below- after my morning walk- then after getting my son from school!!!

So, any suggestions for products with hold....I have come to the conclusion-my hair does not like gels...

Hows your hair today?

Hair today

Usual braid out- not much hold though, after going to collect my son from school- I had a real 'windswept' look-lol. I used the last of my Naked condish from Boots and it seems its been discontinued- so I will have to start on something else in my arsenal. I like the way it made my hair shine.

I didnt actually use these for this braid out, well actually I used everything except that gel. I have to tell you that braid and loc gel SUCKS!!!!! It looked like I had flour in my hair...never a great look. I am goingto do a product review, but I have not found enough rude words to fill the page.

Multi tasking holding baby-lol.

This weeks hair!!

 Hey Peeps,

So I pulled out the twists as my hair well needed a wash!! I co-washed with HEHH then let it air dry a bit, later that afternoon I did an overnight henna treatment.

Co washing with HEHH. I also finger detangled, ready for Henna treatment. In hindsight- not sure why I bother- its always a mess after I wash the Henna out!

This is nice shiney hair after washing henna out, DCing with Naked treatment with some Vatika oil (mmmm) for around a half hour. I am going to experiment with DCing for less time. I have read posts on BGLH this week where people are using fewer products, some are even ditching DCing all together!! I wont go that far, as I feel my hair does benefit from deep conditioning, but  I may tweak my 'routine' a little as a result of reading this post. I will keep you informed.

So when the DC was rinsed out I left in some Cantu Shea butter repair then I braided it all up and sealed with the Vatika. Below is ny hair after a day air drying - I pulled it into a puff- which is getting much bigger (LOVIN IT!!)

So if you look very carefully you can still see the little bits of Henna remaining in my hair- I didnt have the heart, or the arms to continue rinsing it out- this is what happens when you run out of Jamila Henna. ( although to bve fair the stash that I am using has been there for well over eight months!! I am trying to use it all up)

Although I am trying to deny baby has affected my life!! I found the whole henna experience a little chore this time around. I usually dont think twice about the time that it takes to mix the henna- to apply it, to bag it all up, to rinse it out etc. However as you can imagine, every time I started a task baby would want lunch, breakfast, dinner!! (breastfeeding) for this reason I am going to buy some Cassia. The effects are meant to be the same, but it lasts less time - around two weeks or so, but the big advantage is that it is less messy and it is only kept on for 1/2 hour or so. This means I should (in theory) have no problems entertaining baby.

So puff it is for me until the end of the week. I used some aloe vera and also some olive oil gel at the front to smooth the so I will wash on Saturday.

Whats up with your hair this week?

The twists are holding up... I am a PJ

Hey peeps,

So here are the latest pics of the twists. They appear to be holding up very well after two weeks. I have not washed them, I have just wet a few at the front and re-twisted them. I think I will keep them in  for a few more weeks (sheer lazyness!)

Check out my new earrings from QuellyRue designs!

I also ventured out into the big wide world for the first time since having baby yesterday. I only went to do the usual pop into both granny run- via a hairshop!! I have absolutley no self discipline. I am on maternity leave- so anyone who knows what this is like knows that I am on a strict budget. But I didnt care!! my children would have to go without food- and forget the mortgage, I need new products!!  thankfully the shop was not upto much as I spent less that £10. I only bought two things.

Have been hearing about this for some time. As soon as I got it home I opened it. I love it already!! It smells like my grans coconut drops. I am going to use it to seal when I re-do my twists.

I have also been hearing about this ever since I became a natural. It is a product alot of naturals swear by. In fact, the first natural vids I watched on Youtube were reviewing this stuff. I have to say though, if I had smelt it while I was in the shop, I would not have purchased it! It smells sickly sweet to me. I will give it a try as it is soooo popular- but I am unimpressed so far.

So there it is. I have also purchased some stuff from British curlies- I will get round to reviewing this stuff. Although I am excited- I am not excited enough to pull out the twists- lazyness wins the day again!

I will check back in with my hair next week- in the meantime, you will have to remain entertained with my musings from around the 'interweb' !

Baby, hair and feeling normal!

Hey my peeps,

I am proud to announce that my bundle of joy arrived safe and well on 11-02-11. He is yet another blessing and I am glad he is here. I now have a 'neat set of two boys and two  girls and I will be eternally grateful to the Creator for allowing me to have a healthy happy (now complete) family.

Its amazing that the moment you give birth you feel like a human being again! I literally feel normal- it feels like I have not done so for a year! In my pregnancy stupor I asked my ever patient aunty to throw some cornrows into my hair. I really wanted to do a Henna treatment- but I ha visions of myself waking in the middle of the night in labour with three plastic bags on my head covering the Henna!

Here are the cornrows

As you can see I am barely lifting my arms atthis stage!! anywhoo husband was harrassing me about taking them out pretty much the moment I put them in lol- So the day after baby came I pulled them out row by row- wet my hair with water and twisted.

So- no neat partings, medium size twists. I am happy with these. I will try to keep them in for two - 3 weeks. Mostly becuause I am lazy but also I know this is the time when all the dodgy hormones are leaving my body and my hair is particularly sensitive at the moment.

So thats where I am now. The twists are staying in for a while- I am going to scour the net with my new found energy between breast feeds!! excuse any late information- but I intend to comment and abuse as I see fit. Starting wih the Grammys which is on TV tonight here in the UK so I will keep an eye out for the naturals. I also have some product reviews to do- they are coming I promise.

Until Next time

Holiday Hair

I know that this title actually sounds exciting- but its not. My plan for the holidays is to do the same as I have done for the past 8 months....nothing!! Hubby and mum are cooking, so I am going to continue relaxing. As a promise to the other half I have taken out the Kinky twists ( he cannot stand for me to have my hair in braids AT ALL!) So below are a few pics of my first braid out since removing the Kinky twists. When I removed them I washed with black soap, then deep conditioned with Jessicurl Too Shea and Aussie 3 minute miracle condish and I added some avocado oil for good measure. I then bagged it up and kept that on overnight.

So I then left in some of this wonderful stuff that I have found called Naked Boost- I am FEEEEEELING this stuff- perhaps because I am pregnant and I can finally stand the smell of something- but the consistency, smell, ingredients and the fact I can buy it in Boots all impress me.

I then did around 10 plaits in my hair and sealed with coconut oil. I was feeling my hair today. Its -4 out and about, and I had a few last minute bits to but so when I went out, at least my hair was feeling good.

How is your holiday hair?

On another note- you all know my New Years reesolution is to actually catch up on my blogging!

Wishing you and yours all the best for the holiday season.

Yes this is a hair blog!.....

Hey my peeps,

I know I have been slacking. I have been getting some serious rest. I am not even checking my blog- its a disgrace I know. I have not checked out any of my favourite sites, in fact I dont have any idea of whats going on in the world at all!

This pregnancy thing has me sleeping everyday. Literally. I get up in the morning- after hitting snooze on the alarm 5 times, then I shower and go to work. I come home, I sleep,I get up-eat (Hubby cooks- I have not cooked for 6mths-bonus!) I nap. I muster a little energy to talk to my kids- then I go to bed. Its sad I know- but thats just the way it is for me right now.

My hair. I finally git the kinky twists. Thanks anty J! You are an Angel. they have actually been in for three weeks now. I know I am on the longest thing in the world. My camera has needed charging- that would have meant me finding the charger, then finding the camera , linking the two etc etc. (yes things are that bad) I finally charged it yesterday and took  the pics below.

You can see the cleavage doing its own thing !lol!'

This is the 'go to' style. In the mornings I just throw it back in a ponytail. I love these braids.

So I have been doing nothing with them. Every night I pull out the hairband and place the loose twists in a silk headscarf. Every other day (between naps) I spray my scalp with Rose Water (pure) or more recently with Darcy's Botanicals Herbal spray. People talk of washing their braids. I am not sure that is such a good idea. I used the cheapest hair I could find for these braids- Surely they would fall apart if I tried to wash them?

Ironically I bought a bunch of stuff from British Curlies.com. I have intentionally avoided buying from here as it is SOOO expensive. we literally have to pay DOUBLE what the US ladies have to pay. This really hurts. the fact remains however I am a PJ and I need this stuff. It is now also the ONLY place you can buy these products over here. So I closed my eyes and pressed the pay button and ordered the following. ( £70 worth!)

As my hair is in twists I have been using some products in my daughters hair. Reviews to follow.

Sooooooo. To wash or not to wash (my braids that is!!) what say you? baring in mind that the plan is to keep these twists until I go on my maternity leave at Christmas.

Thats me for now. I hear LL is hosting the grammy nominations show.Mmmmmmmmmmm- look out for pics of him (and some others)

I wont stay away so long next time.

Accessories

I have been meaning to do this post for ages and ages, but every time I plan to wear this, the good old British weather dictates otherwise.

I have stated before I am NOT a flower in the hair type of chic! but I do recognize the need to accessorize. So I went onto ETSY (My PJism has reached new levels! lol) and found the wickedest hairbands from QuellyRue designs.

So fast forward to now!! when I finally thought to myself- I better not wait for a special occasion to wear this. So I was hosting a parents information evening and I pulled this out of my box and Voila!! I got sooo many compliments that night  it was ridiculous.

Here are a few shots from the morning

These earrings are from ETSY also from ashop called Earjeans. Together they looked FLYYYYYYY!!. WhatI particularly liked about the headbands was that they are lined with satin so you dont have to worry about the front of your hair breakking off!!

The service was amazzing and the wonderful lady at QuellyRue designs wrote a personal message for every order that I placed ( you know the PJ in me meant I had to get more than one)

It really made a difference as I usually just bun with a black band. This brightened things up.

Loving it!!

What say you? what do you use to brighten up your do? I would love to get some pics.
